Brim 50013 Electric Handheld Burr Coffee Grinder Review
Brim 50013 is inexpensive electric handheld burr coffee grinder. Can it be any good and does it possess any significant flaws? Let’s find out!
Grinding
Being an inexpensive burr grinder you can’t expect much from Brim 50013. It obviously isn’t comparable to more expensive grinders which will grind to near perfect consistency however Brim 50013 does grind better than blade grinders generally do.
It has 7 different grind size settings which isn’t a lot. This means you won’t be able to make minor adjustments (some of the more expensive burr grinders have hundreds of different settings but then it’s already a bit of an overkill).
Even though the finest grind size setting is called “espresso” in reality Brim 50013 doesn’t grind fine enough for a good espresso. Finest setting will work for something like AeroPress and other settings will cover everything that requires coarser grind. Again, with an inexpensive burr grinder you will never get exceptional grounds, but it can be a decent alternative to an blade grinder.
Another nuance of Brim 50013 electric handheld burr coffee grinder is that it grinds very, very slow. It also grinds very slow. The upside of this is that burrs probably don’t heat up much (hot burrs can extract some of the flavor of beans when grinded) however it takes a lot longer to grind that with other models.
Controls are very simple – there’s just 1 button. Pour beans in, hold the button until to grind them and then pour the grounds out. To adjust grind size just rotate the upper part of the grinder.
Quality
Even though Brim 50013 looks nice it feels cheap. Opening and closing the top is a bit difficult and the plastic feels like it might break any moment. Other parts feel flimsy too.
The worst thing is probably that there are significant reports from consumers that their Brim 50013 lasted less than 1 year. This probably doesn’t happen with every unit but it’s obvious long-term reliability isn’t this grinders strongest point.
Other
Opening of bean hopper is small so it’s difficult to pour beans inside. Once you finish grinding getting the grounds out is difficult too and will almost always make a little mess.
Conclusions
Brim 50013 is a cheap burr grinder and it shows. If you are looking for a burr grinder it can be assumed you want something that will last and will grinds beans well enough to make your coffee flavorful and taste great. In short you will be better off by saving money for a more expensive but well made burr coffee grinder.
