Breville Combi Wave 3-in-1 BMO870BSS1BUC1 Convection Oven Review

Breville Combi Wave is a 3-in-1 kitchen appliance that’s an air fryer, convection oven and microwave all at the same time. With 1.1 cubic foot (32 liter) internal volume it’s also one of the larger convection ovens allowing you to cook larger batches of food.

Breville Combi Wave cooks well however sometimes it doesn’t perform quite as well as you would expect from a premium convection oven.

Microwave and convection oven functions work just fine however air frying feature could work better. There are less expensive countertop ovens with air fry function where it works better. You might also  notice that Breville Combi Wave sometimess cooks slightly unevenly however it doesn’t happen too often and when it does the variance isn’t large.

Overall it performs well most of the time however in certain situations other countertop ovens might work better.

Cooking functions

Breville Combi Wave has 7 primary cooking functions: Fast Combi, From Frozen, Air Fry, Oven, Microwave, Grill and Food Menu.

Fast Combi cooking function combines microwave, the convection oven and grill cooking modes to cook your food faster than in a regular oven.

From Frozen cooking function is for cooking different types of frozen meat. It also uses microwave, the convection oven and grill cooking modes.

Air fry mode has 3 minute preheat cycle. Halfway through cooking cycle “STIR/TURN” will flash on LCD display and Breville Combi Wave will beep. At this point you flip over food and press “Start” to continue cooking.

Oven cooking function cooks food using convection oven cooking style.

Microwave function is pretty self-explanatory. Pressing this button will make Breville Combi Wave work as a microwave. Don’t forget to only use microwave-safe dishes or bowls with this function.

Grill function is designed to brown your food. It uses top heating elements and works best with Combi Crisp pan in high position (with legs unfolded).

When you select Food Menu function it gives you 3 choices: Cook, Reheat or Defrost. Smart Cook function is designed to cook at best power and temperatures for optimal time. Smart Cook has 15 food options: popcorn, hard vegetables, soft vegetables, rice, bacon, cake, cookies, soften butter, melt chocolate, pizza, nuggets, fries, chicken, meat and fish.

Noise

Breville Combi Wave is significantly quieter than most countertop ovens during cooking.

Beeps and audible alarms are pleasant and not obnoxious like on regular microwaves. You can actually select between regular beeps like you typically find on other microwaves or Breville’s pleasent ones. You can also adjust the volume or mute beeping altogether.

Clearance

Breville Combi Wave requires 20 cm (8 inches) clearance on all sides and top which is something you have to take into consideration before buying it as it’s not that small by itself.
