Bonsenkitchen CG8901 Conical Burr Coffee Grinder Review

Bonsenkitchen CG8901 is entry level conical burr grinder with 200W power. It has 12 different grind coarseness settings and can grind 2 to 12 cups worth of ground coffee at a time.

Grinding

Bonsenkitchen CG8901 is miles better than any blade grinder but being entry level model it just doesn’t provide as good grind as more expensive models.

Grind is reasonably uniform but don’t expect to be perfect. Bonsenkitchen CG8901 seems to work best for medium grinds as you would want a finer grind for espresso than you get on finer setting and it doesn’t grind very coarse on coarsest settings too.

Unsurprisingly there’s is some retention and Bonsenkitchen CG8901 also spits out some grounds on the container during grinding so it’s slightly messy.

Bean hopper and grounds container

Capacity of bean hopper is 8 oz (0.5 lb or 230 grams) whereas grounds container 3.5 oz (90 grams). They are both made of plastic so there’s is some static cling (you can add a drop of water to beans or slightly spray them with water before grinding to reduce static).

Controls

If you have used a burr grinder before you will find Bonsenkitchen CG8901 very intuitive as controls are very similar to most other models. Coarseness of the grind can be adjusted by rotating bean hopper whereas grind amount (2 to 12 cups) by using dial located on the front below bean hopper.

Grind amount dial can be imprecise at times depending on beans you use, i.e. you might set it to grind 2 cups but it might grind 3-4 cups worth of beans instead.

Conclusions

Bonsenkitchen CG8901 performs as you expect for an entry level unit. It’s certainly upgrade from regular blade grinder but you won’t get quite the same flavour out of your coffee as you get with more serious burr grinders.
