BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 20V MAX is electric chainsaw with 10-inch Oregon low kickback guide bar & chain. It’s one of the least expensive battery powered chainsaws you can buy today so it is any good?

Cutting performance

BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 isn’t powerful which you probably already expected considering it has only 10-inch bar and it’s inexpensive battery powered chainsaw. However it’s decent for lighter duty jobs. Like taking down small trees or cutting planks or small limbs, branches, saplings, logs etc. of diameter up to ~6 inches. Anything bigger and lack of power starts to become noticeable but it will still cut through if necessary.

Ease of use

BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 is compact and lightweight making it very easy to use and handle. BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 20V MAX weighs just 7.2 lbs – significantly less than large majority of chainsaws, both electric and gas powered. Because it’s so light it causes less fatigue than other chainsaws that are heavier so it might be more adequate for older people.

Features

BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 20V MAX has tool-less chain tensioning system and chain brake however it doesn’t have automatic oiler – feature you will find on nearly all modern chainsaws.

Battery

BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 comes with 20V MAX 2.0 Ah lithium-ion battery but is also compatible with batteries of higher capacity. Battery life is not great as it only lasts few minutes of continuous cutting before it runs out of charge so you might need extra battery/ies.

Electric chainsaw advantages over gas units

Even though BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 doesn’t compete with gas chainsaws due to small guide bar size and less power it’s still worth to count the advantaged of electric unit. Electric chainsaws are less noisy, they start immediately and without any effort, doesn’t emit any harmful fumes and requires less maintenance than gas chainsaws.

BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 isn’t replacement for a gas chainsaw but it’s a great option for someone who needs a light chainsaw for light duty jobs.
