Best Portable Rechargeable and Battery Operated Fans (Review)

A portable fan can be a lifesaver during power outages, traveling, hiking, camping and other instances. These small fans can be surprisingly powerful despite their small size and create truly powerful air flow which effectively cools down you or the room/tent it’s placed in.

We have done a massive research to help you choose the best portable rechargeable/battery operated fan just for you, so read the full article now!

#1 OPOLAR 6-inch Battery Operated Fan

This OPOLAR battery operated fan is powered by two 2600 mAh lithium batteries. It has three speed settings: low, medium and high. The fan is very quiet on low setting, however it is a bit noisy on medium and high. Air flow it makes on high is strong. Battery life is decent, it last around 5 hours on high and 10+ hours on medium. Batteries are rechargable with USB cable and take 4-5 hours to charge completely. They are built-in and cannot be removed. If you want you can power the fan directly with USB cable from power sources like power bank.

The fan has timer function, you can set it up to shut off after 1, 2 or 4 hours. The head of the fan can be vertically adjusted by 90 degrees, however there is no horizontal adjustment.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 5.9 x 2.4 x 7.2 inches
  • Battery: 2x 2600 mAh 18650
  • Speed modes: 3 (low, medium and high)
  • Max RPM: 2300

#2 OPOLAR 4-Inch 3350mAh Battery Operated Rechargeable Fan

OPOLAR 4-Inch 3350mAh battery fan produces up to 14 ft/s of airflow. It’s very powerful for its size. It has three speed settings: low, medium and high. However you can only use low and medium while charging the fan or powering it directly with USB cable. Still, medium is still pretty strong. On high speed the battery life is 3-4 hours, on medium: 8-10 hours and 10+ hours on low. Fan works quietly on low and medium speed settings, but does make a bit of noise on high (however not so much to concern most). It’s well made and sturdy. There is built-in flashlight bulb on the side, it’s not very bright but still can be quite useful.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 3.94 x 1.58 x 5.9 inches
  • Battery: 3350 mAh
  • Speed modes: 3 (high, medium, low)
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x OPOLAR 4-Inch fan
    • 1 x micro USB cable
    • 1 x user manual

#3 OPOLAR 4-Inch 2200 mAh Battery Operated Rechargeable Fan

OPOLAR 4-Inch Fan is the same as the fan above, just with weaker battery and slightly cheaper pricing. Despite its small size it is capable of creating strong air flow. It has a total of 3 speeds: low and medium provides a nice breeze while being very quiet, high setting creates a strong air flow but it’s a bit noisy. At highest speed setting the fan runs at 3200 RPM. Air flow direction is non-adjustable.

OPOLAR 4-Inch Fan has 2200 mAh rechargeable battery. Battery life is not that good – on high speed setting it lasts for only 2 hours, on lowest – around 8. Recharging is done with USB cable which can also be used as a direct power source.

The price difference between 2200 mAh and 3350 mAh versions is so small that I would suggest to go for 3350mAh one.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 3.94 x 1.58 x 5.9 inches
  • Battery: 2200 mAh
  • Speed modes: 3 (high, medium, low)
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x OPOLAR 4-Inch fan
    • 1 x micro USB cable
    • 1 x user manual

#4 OPOLAR AA Battery Operated Fan

OPOLAR AA Battery Operated Fan is almost identical to the #1 rated fan with some minor differences. It doesn’t run on built-in batteries but regular AA ones instead. Battery life varies depending on the batteries, but with regular rechargeable ones you should expect 2-3 hour battery life. It can be powered directly with USB cable from other devices like powerbanks. It has three speed settings: low pushes a bit of air, medium pushes decent amounts and high is pretty strong. It’s a bit weaker than the built-in battery operated one, as it does 1900 RPM on max setting instead of 2300 RPM. On low setting the fan is quiet, on medium makes some slight noise and it gets louder on high but nothing exceedingly loud.

OPOLAR Fan is 90 degree vertically adjustable with no horizontal adjustment. It has a timer function and can be set to shut off after 1, 2 or 4 hours.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 5.9 x 2.4 x 7.2 inches
  • Battery: 4 x AA batteries
  • Speed modes: 3 (low, medium and high)
  • Max RPM: 1900

#5 Efluky 3 fan

Efluky 3 fan is basically identical design wise as OPOLAR’s 2200 mAh 4 inch one, just slightly (about half an inch) bigger. It has rechargeable 2200mAh battery that lasts for around 2 hours on highest speed setting and about 5-6 hours on lowest. In total it has three speed settings. It produces a strong breeze. It’s quiet on low and medium speed setting, but does make some noise on high.

Overall since it’s a bit larger and just a bit more expensive, you should go for OPOLAR’s fan.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 4.88″ x 1.73″ x 5.83 inches
  • Battery: 2200 mAh
  • Speed modes: 3 (high, medium, low)
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x Efluky 3 fan
    • 1 x micro USB cable
    • 1 x user manual

#6 Miady 7.5-Inch Portable Fan

Miady 7.5-Inch Portable Fan is kinda largish but certainly not the biggest portable fan. It has three different speed settings – all of them are quite powerful and although not the quietest they aren’t too noisy either. Manufacturer claims maximum airflow up to 19ft/s – that’s a very impressive number and indeed the fan is very powerful, however it doesn’t feel 19ft/s strong. The fan does seem to work flawlessly but it doesn’t feel sturdy or strong.

Miady fan rotates by 280 degrees vertically and 360 degrees horizontally – it offers great amount of adjustment for airflow direction. The base is decent and has good amount of grip and stability, but the fan can also be clipped pretty much anywhere.

Miady 7.5-Inch Portable Fan is powered by 2000mAh rechargable battery. Battery life unfortunately is far from the best – 2 to 5 hours depending on speed setting used, but the batteries are replaceable so you can stack them up if necessary. The fan is charged with USB cable and can be powered directly without the use of batteries. So instead of stacking batteries, having a power bank (or multiple) would be probably a better idea.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 7.8 x 6 x 5.1 inches
  • Battery: 2x 2000mAh 18650
  • Speed modes: 3 (high, medium, low)
  • 280 degrees vertically adjustable
  • 360 degrees horizontally adjustable
  • Max air flow: 19 ft/s
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x Miady clip on fan
    • 1 x 18650 rechargeable battery
    • 1 x Micro USB cable

#7 VersionTECH Mini Handheld Fan

VersionTECH Mini Handheld Fan is powered by 2000 mAh battery than can be recharged with USB cable, but can also run with direct power supply. Battery life is decent but not the best – it runs for 2-8 hours depending on speed setting. There is a total of 3: low, medium and high. VersionTECH Mini Handheld Fan has a total of 6 blades – three big ones and three smaller ones. That’s an interesting design that seems to be working great – the fan is capable of outputting a surprising amount of air, it’s certainly much powerful that the looks of it suggest. It’s not loud but certainly not the quietest as well. The fan folds up to 180°, so it can be compactly stored or hanged/clipped on other objects. The fan is made out of ABS plastic and doesn’t leave an impression of being sturdy, but it’s well made and stronger than it seems.

Details:

  • Fan diameter: 10.3 cm / 4.06 inches
  • Height: 20.5 cm / 8.07 inches
  • Handle width: 3 cm / 1.18 inches
  • Output power: max 4W
  • Input current: 0.5-1A
  • Output current: 0.5-0.8A
  • Battery life: 2-8 hours
  • Charging time: ~4 hours
  • Charger: input: 5V output: 5V-9V
  • Battery: Li-ion 18650-3.7V 2000mAh
  • Speed mode: 3 speeds modes (low, medium and high)
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x VersionTECH. Handheld Fan
    • 1 x Battery(18650-3.7V 2000mAh)
    • 1 x Charging Cable
    • 1 x Metal Clip
    • 1 x User Manual

#8 SkyGenius Battery Operated Fan

SkyGenius Fan has a 2600mAh rechargeable and replaceable battery which lasts 2-6 (or even more) hours on full charge depending on fan speed. There is a total of 3 speed settings: max speed (3W), lowest speed (1.5W) and USB powered (2W). At max speed the fan produces 10.5ft/s wind, which is strong and does a lot of cooling. SkyGenius Fan is 360° vertically and horizontally rotatable that provides adjustability that very few fans have. The clip is strong and sturdy. During charging a red light will turn on, when the fan is fully charged it will turn off.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 19 * 15 * 10 cm (7.5 * 6 * 4 inch)
  • Battery: 2600mAh 18650
  • Max air flow: 10.5ft/s
  • Speed modes: 3 (high, low & USB powered)
  • 360° vertical and horizontal rotation
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x battery Fan
    • 1 x USB Cable
    • 1 x rechargeable 18650 Li-ion battery

#9 OPOLAR 9 Inch Battery Powered USB Fan

OPOLAR 9 Inch Battery Powered USB Fan is pretty large so it’s not the most compact fan, but it’s well made, light and works well. The air flow it produces is strong – 13.1 ft/s on high speed setting and the fan isn’t loud. OPOLAR 9 Inch fan has two speed settings: high (1700 RPM) and low (1200 RPM), it is powered by two 2600 mAh batteries or through USB charging. Battery life is good and the fan will run for at least 9 hours. During charging a small amber light will turn on, when the fan is fully charged it will turn blue. OPOLAR 9 Inch fan is durable and is made from sturdy aluminum/steel composite. It can be adjusted by 360 degrees vertically but there is no horizontal adjustment options.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 9 x 3.9 x 9.6 inches
  • Battery: 2x 2600mAh 18650
  • Speed modes: 2 (high, low)
  • 360 degrees vertically adjustable
  • Package Includes:
    • 1 x Fan
    • 2 x 2600mAh 18650 battery
    • 1 x Micro USB Cable
    • 1 x User Manual

#10 O2COOL 10-Inch Portable Fan

O2COOL 10-Inch portable fan runs on 6 D-cell batteries (not included) but can also be powered AC adapter. Battery life is amazing and the fan runs for over 30 hours. It has 2 speed settings: low and high. Both of them produce a decent amount of airflow. Fan does make just a bit noisy but it’s not too loud or irritating. There is some limited vertical adjustability for air flow direction but zero horizontal.

Using D-cell batteries as a power source might not be the most convenient solution, but O2COOL 10-Inch portable fan manages to perform for very long periods of time with single set of six batteries. Battery life is the strongest aspect of this fan. Other than that there is nothing special about it, higher rated fans outperform it in other categories like effectiveness, build quality and functionality. Still it’s a decent fan and will satisfy most consumers.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 12 x 3.5 x 12.4 inches
  • Battery: 6 D-cell batteries
  • Speed modes: 2 (high & low)
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x O2COOL 10-Inch portable fan
    • 1 x AC Adapter

#11 COMLIFE 4400mAh Battery Operated Fan

COMLIFE portable fan is powered by two 2200 mAh 18650 flat top batteries. It has stepless speed adjustment and creates a maximum of 10.5ft/s wind, which provides a nice and strong breeze. The fan works very quietly. The battery life is pretty good as well, it lasts for 6-32 hours depending on speed setting. Charging is done through USB cable.

The fan is much more sturdy that it feels like. It has a strong, big clip so the fan can be clipped anywhere. The head of fan is 360 degrees vertically and horizontally adjustable, so you can direct the air flow just the way you want.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 8.3 x 5.91 x 3.94 inches
  • Battery: 2x 2200 mAh 18650 flat top
  • Speed modes: stepless speed adjustment
  • Package includes:
    • 1 x COMLIFE portable fan
    • 2 x 2200 mAh 18650 flat top batteries
    • 1 x USB cable

#12 O2COOL 5″ Portable Fan Battery Powered

O2COOL 5″ Portable Fan runs on two D batteries. It’s not among most powerful 5″ fans but it does move some air. It’s also very quiet on both speed settings: low and high. The battery life depends on batteries but you can expect it to be 20+ hours, which is pretty good. It has some vertical adjustment.

This fan is far from best but it’s the least expensive in this list. The value for money is pretty decent.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 6.1 x 2 x 6.5 inches
  • Battery: 2 x D batteries
  • Speed modes: 2 (low and high)

#13 O2COOL 10 inch 6x D Battery Fan

O2COOL 10 inch fan runs on six D-cell batteries, but can also be plugged in socket with AC adapter it comes with. It has two speeds settings. Battery life depends on batteries, but you can typically expect ~10 hours on high speed. It creates some airflow but it’s a bit weak for its size compared to some other fans. It works quietly.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 13 x 12 x 4 inches
  • Battery: 6 x D batteries
  • Speed modes: 2 (low and high)

#14 O2COOL 5-Inch AA Battery Operated Fan

This O2COOL 5-Inch fan is powered by four AA batteries (not included). Battery life depends on batteries but you can expect it to be 10+ hours with regular rechargable ones. The fan makes a decent air flow on high, but nothing I would call strong especially when compared to other higher rated fans. O2COOL 5-Inch AA powered fan also seems to be cheaply made and not sturdy at all.

The fan has a nice clip which is the only thing that feels sturdy. Head of the fan rotates and pivots so there is some air direction adjustment.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 6.5 x 2.2 x 12.2 inches
  • Battery: 4 x AA batteries
  • Speed modes: 2 (low and high)

#15 O2COOL 10 inch 8x D Battery Fan

This O2COOL fan runs on 8 D batteries but can also be powered directly with AC adapter. It has 2 speed settings, creates a decent airflow but certainly nothing impressive. For some reason it produces a slightly stronger air flow with AC adapted compared to batteries. The head of the fan swivels vertically so there is some adjustment options. The fan is cheaply made and not sturdy at all. It’s also prone to overheating. Considering that it’s also the most expensive one in this list, it offers terrible value for money.

Details:

  • Dimensions: 13.5 x 12 x 4 inches
  • Battery: 8 x D batteries
  • Speed modes: 2 (low and high)
